  The concept of sin?

  ok, here is one that jabs into my mind occasionally.

  the concept of 'sin' and the fallen state of man is rather profound and used to blow my mind, especially when paul broke down the concept when writing about the struggle with the fleshly state.

  i could relate to those words and it was originally one of the main reasons i moved towards the scriptures (that, and the carrot of living forever of course

  By the way LT - I was kinda joking with my response.

  Surely part of the Christian code is to produce works worthy of Christ & God? Acts within the objective realm to show that one is truly sorrowful for the sinful state of man?

  I wish I could be liberated from the concept of sin, it has stayed with me for years and years and often feels like a burden. I feel really bad about myself some days and I doubt I am doing many things at the moment to justify my negative feelings.

  Faith eh - what a joke that seems to me at times. I'm fed up trying to believe in invisible hopes & dreams. I need God to touch me on the shoulder and give me something tangible to grapple with for a change!

  Sorry... going off the subject a bit there - just having a moan

  • How does one "free oneself" to attain Nirvana?

  By moving beyond mere physical desire; centering oneself with the great universal spirit that joins all and is all?

  • What is kharmic debt?

  An accumulation of selfish acts that build up throughout one's physical life?

  • Why did the Greeks look down on "running away from your fate"?

  Not to turn and face one's demon is a form of moral cowardice?

  • Where did the "weight" come from, that the Egyptians feared would ultimately be heavier than a feather?

  Did the concept of sin originate with the Jewish/Christian experience, or is it traceable to other mythological sources?

  The point of raising these cases IMO is to highlight the 'lack of love' within an organisation who claim to be 'full of brotherly love and affection' - when clearly they ain't

  hi there - i'm sorry if this is off topic slightly, but i need information.. i am not learned in this area of science and wondered if it is true that there is a fault within human dna that science assumes is the reason we break down and die and are unable to explain.. forgive my ignorance here.

  this question spins off from a conversation i had this afternoon with an ex-jw who wishes to get back to the kingdom hall and was using this argument to present his ideas to me.

  i told him that i was not aware of this particular area of study but would look into it for him.. i am assuming that he read this in an awake article maybe?.

  I can't imagine a typical dub getting any of this. Most are window cleaners, janitors, and other menail job ppl. They barley know what DNA is, nevermind how it divides, or what chromosones are.

  I would love to get an earfull of your disussion with them, LOL!

  I really enjoy my friends company and he was an active witness for over 30 years!! He has great qualities, but does suffer as a result of his time with the society. His mentality is splitting apart at the moment and I am desperately trying to prop up his mind with a little 'secular' reasoning to enable him to exist on the outside of the org'.

  I am not trying to persuade him to ditch the Bible, just to take a more flexible approach when accumalting knowledge to support his belief system, in this way he may eventually see that the society do not have all of the answers and indeed the Bible needs to be viewed as a record which has it's uses spirtually speaking, yet may be fallible.

  The discussions do get very draining at times, but are worthwhile (at least, I think so).

This question spins off from a conversation I had this afternoon with an ex-JW who wishes to get back to the Kingdom Hall and was using this argument to present his ideas to me. I told him that I was not aware of this particular area of study but would look into it for him.

  I am assuming that he read this in an Awake article maybe?

  Any thoughts appreciated.

  The problem this old timer had is the same that many have. They read the scriptures and work out their personal understanding and then come under fire by 'those who know better'.

  That is one major problem with the Christian faith - it encourages the arrogant prophet to come to the surface in many; when certain areas of the faith are obviously deeply subjective.

  Abandoning a man when he is 85 is a disgrace. Why they couldn't simply have accommodated him, whilst not encouraging him to teach (James 3:1-2 ???) is beyond me. Pathetic and spineless people.

  to get a break from my jw parents when i was 17 (i'm 25 now) i took an apartment of my own.

  i was working full time and going to school.

  a busy schedule that allowed me to miss meetings without them constantly hounding me.
